6 month MOT Extension

The Government has extended the MOT on all cars with an MOT date after 30th March 2020 and before 1st August 2020.  The extension has caused some confusion amongst customers, this should clear things up.

Has my MOT been extended?

We can check if you MOT has been extended or you can check by typing in your reg number to the government online MOT checker.

Why has my MOT been extended?

The government extended MOT dates to ensure people could still use their car without breaking the law.

The extension is going to be in place until an announcement is made suggesting otherwise. It is important to check if your MOT has been extended.

You should check using the government online MOT checker three days before your MOT was originally due to expire, check the expiry date has been extended. If the expiry date has not been extended 3 days before it was due to expire, email covid19mot@dvsa.gov.uk – include your reg number and MOT expiry date in the email

How long will the MOT extension scheme last?

Until 1st August. If your MOT is due on or after 1st August, you will not receive an extension and must have your car MOT as usual.

I am worried that my car might not be safe. Can I still have my MOT carried out as normal?

Yes. We are still open and here for MOTs and everything else as usual. We are still seeing lots of drivers wanting their MOT taken to give them peace of mind and ensure that they are driving a roadworthy vehicle.

If are happy with your MOT being extended then, we would recommend carrying out some regular checks but if you are not sure about anything, give us a call, we are here if you need us.
